Dominik Hasek Biography

Dominik Hasek, born on 29 January 1965, played 16 seasons in the National Hockey League as a goaltender, primarily with the Buffalo Sabres. He has played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, and Ottawa Senators during his NHL career, concluding his time in Europe. His performance helped establish European goaltenders in a league previously dominated by North American players. Hasek won the Stanley Cup twice with the Detroit Red Wings, first as the starting goaltender in 2002 and again in 2008 as a backup. He earned six Vezina Trophies between 1993 and 2001, the most under the current voting system for the best goaltender. In 1998, he won his second consecutive Hart Memorial Trophy, a feat unmatched by any other goaltender. During the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, he led the Czech national team to its first and only Olympic gold medal.
