David Allen Wright, born on December 20, 1982, played his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career with the New York Mets as a third baseman. Selected in the 2001 MLB draft, he debuted in the majors on July 21, 2004, at Shea Stadium. He earned the nickname Captain America after leading the 2013 World Baseball Classic with 10 RBI and a .438 batting average. Wright was a seven-time All-Star and a two-time Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award winner, and he achieved a 30–30 season. He is the Mets' all-time leader in career plate appearances and holds multiple franchise records for position players. After missing time from 2015 to 2018 due to spinal stenosis, he concluded his career in 2018. Wright ended his MLB career with a .296 batting average, 242 home runs, and 970 runs batted in.
