David Robinson Biography

David Maurice Robinson, born on August 6, 1965, played professional basketball in the United States. Nicknamed the Admiral for his service in the U.S. Navy, he played his entire 14-year career with the San Antonio Spurs. He was selected by the Spurs as the first overall pick in the 1987 NBA draft and began playing in 1989 after fulfilling his Navy duty. Robinson was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame individually in 2008 and as part of the 1992 Olympic team in 2009. He was named to the NBA 50th Anniversary Team in 1996 and the 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. Robinson earned all-area and all-district honors in high school but received little attention from college basketball coaches. In 2011, he earned a Master of Arts in Administration with a focus on organizational development from the University of the Incarnate Word.
