Dave Schultz Biography

David Lesley Schultz, born on June 6, 1959, was an American Olympic and World champion freestyle wrestler who earned seven World and Olympic medals during his career. He has worked as a coach for college teams and individuals, as well as through private training programs. Dave Schultz and his brother Mark both won gold medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics, marking a historic achievement for American wrestling. The Schultz brothers are among the few brother pairs to win both World and Olympic championships, joining Buvaisar and Adam Saitiev and Anatoli and Sergei Beloglazov. The Schultz brothers have accumulated more NCAA, World, and Olympic titles than any other American brother duo in history. Schultz was employed as a coach by John du Pont, who sponsored the private Foxcatcher wrestling team based at Foxcatcher Farm in Pennsylvania. In 1996, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame established the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award to honor outstanding high school male wrestlers nationwide.
