Dave DeBusschere Biography

David Albert DeBusschere was born on October 16, 1940, and passed away on May 14, 2003, as an American professional athlete. He played in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox in 1962 and 1963, and in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons from 1962 through 1968. DeBusschere served as head coach for the Detroit Pistons from 1964 to 1967. In 1996, he was recognized as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. He played both basketball and baseball at the University of Detroit, now part of the University of Detroit Mercy. DeBusschere helped the New York Knicks win the 1970 NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983 after a career from 1962 to 1974, averaging 16.1 points and 11 rebounds while earning eight All-Star selections.
