Darrell Green Biography

Darrell Ray Green, born on February 15, 1960, was an American professional football player who played as a cornerback for the Washington Redskins in the National Football League for two decades. He was selected by the Redskins in the first round of the 1983 NFL draft, despite being the last pick in that round, and played college football at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Green earned the 1996 NFL Man of the Year award, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008, and was named to the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. He initially played on the junior varsity football team during his junior year of high school before earning a spot on the varsity team as a senior. He played college football at Texas A&I University, which is now known as Texas A&M-Kingsville. In 1982, he was chosen team captain by his peers, earned first-team All-American honors, and was awarded the Most Valuable Player title in the Lone Star Conference. He competed in track and field, where he established multiple national and conference records and received ten All-America awards.
