Danny Wuerffel Biography

Daniel Carl Wuerffel, born on May 27, 1974, is an American former football quarterback who played college football for the Florida Gators and professional football in the National Football League. He played under head coach Steve Spurrier at Florida, where he developed into a standout passer with a high level of offensive production. Wuerffel recorded the most touchdown passes in the NCAA during both 1995 and 1996, setting multiple school and conference records over his collegiate career. In his senior season of 1996, he earned the Heisman Trophy while guiding the Gators to their first national championship title. He also competed in NFL Europe, where he led the Rhein Fire to a league championship victory in World Bowl 2000. Wuerffel earned a bachelor's degree in public relations from the university and was later honored as a 'Gator Great' in the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006. He was formally inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013 based on his collegiate achievements.
