Dan Marino Biography

Daniel Constantine Marino Jr., born on September 15, 1961, played professional football in the National Football League for 17 seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers and earned first-team All-American honors in 1981. Marino led the Miami Dolphins to ten playoff appearances and one Super Bowl appearance during his career, known for his quick release and powerful arm. He holds the most career victories among quarterbacks who have not won a Super Bowl, with 155 wins. In 1984, he was named NFL Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year, setting single-season records for passing yards, touchdown passes, and 300-yard games. Marino threw the most touchdown passes in the 1980s and the most passing yards in the 1990s, despite limited participation in the latter decade. He was inducted into the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll, the College Football Hall of Fame, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and his jersey number has been retired by the Miami Dolphins.
