Dan Gable Biography

Danny Mack Gable, born October 25, 1948, is an American former folkstyle and freestyle wrestler and coach. Gable is recognized as one of the greatest wrestlers in history, having earned NCAA Division I national championships, a World Wrestling Championships gold medal, and an Olympic gold medal. In 2014, Gable was honored with induction into the International Sports Hall of Fame, and he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2020. From 1967 to 1970, Gable competed in wrestling while attending Iowa State University. At both the 1971 World Championships and the 1972 Olympic Games, Gable won every match without allowing any points to his opponents. After competing briefly from 1974 to 1975, Gable retired from competition and transitioned into full-time coaching. In 1991, Gable was awarded the Art Abrams Lifetime Achievement Award by the Cauliflower Alley Club.
