D'Angelo Russell, born on February 23, 1996, is an American professional basketball player who has competed in the National Basketball Association as a point guard. He was recognized as a McDonald's All-American in 2014 and played college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes prior to being selected second overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell earned a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team during his debut season with the Lakers in 2016. He was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in 2017 and later received his first NBA All-Star selection in 2019. In the 2019 off-season, Russell joined the Golden State Warriors through a sign-and-trade agreement and was subsequently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves before the 2020 trade deadline. He began his high school career at Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky, during the 2010–11 academic year before transferring to Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida for his sophomore year. During his final season at Ohio State in 2014–15, Russell played in 35 games, averaging 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.6 steals in 33.9 minutes per contest.
