Cris Carter Biography

Cris Carter, born November 25, 1965, is an American former professional football wide receiver who has played in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, and Miami Dolphins. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history due to his consistent performance and impact on the field. During his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Buddy Ryan contributed to a well-known quote about Carter, highlighting his touchdown-catching ability, though Carter was released in 1989 due to off-field issues. After joining the Minnesota Vikings, Carter transformed his career and life, earning multiple All-Pro honors and appearing in eight consecutive Pro Bowls. Upon leaving the Vikings after the 2001 season, he held the team’s record for most career receiving yards, receptions, and touchdown receptions. Carter is the brother of former NBA player and coach Butch Carter, sharing a familial connection to professional basketball. He was originally named Graduel Christopher Darwin Carter, but later adopted the name Cris after idolizing wide receiver Cris Collinsworth, choosing a name he felt would better suit his aspirations in football.
