Craig Biggio Biography

Craig Biggio, born December 14, 1965, played 20 seasons in Major League Baseball as a second baseman, outfielder, and catcher for the Houston Astros from 1988 to 2007. He earned seven National League All-Star selections and is the only player to win an All-Star berth and a Silver Slugger Award at both catcher and second base. Biggio recorded a .300 batting average four times and reached 100 runs scored in eight seasons, holding Astros records for games, at bats, hits, runs, doubles, total bases, and extra base hits. He led the National League in being hit by pitches five times, finishing his career with 285 such incidents, second in major league history. Biggio received the 2005 Hutch Award for perseverance and the 2007 Roberto Clemente Award for sportsmanship and community service. Since 2008, he has served as special assistant to the general manager of the Houston Astros. Before his baseball career, he was honored as the top football player in Suffolk County following the 1983 season.
