Christopher Jon Weinke, born on July 31, 1972, is an American football coach and former professional quarterback who has played in the National Football League for seven seasons, primarily with the Carolina Panthers. Before focusing on football, Weinke spent seven years in Minor League Baseball, initially pursuing a career in the sport. He earned the Heisman Trophy in 2000, becoming the oldest recipient of the award at age 28. During his first season with Carolina, Weinke served as the primary starter, but after winning only one game, he spent the rest of his career as a backup. After retiring as a player, Weinke transitioned into coaching and has served as an assistant coach with the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets since 2022. He was recognized as an all-state baseball player and received a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings High School All-America Baseball First Team in 1990. Following a four-day visit to the Florida State University campus in August 1990, Weinke chose to sign a professional baseball contract with the Toronto Blue Jays' Class A affiliate, Myrtle Beach Blue Jays, and began his baseball career.
