Chris Chambliss Biography

Carroll Christopher Chambliss, born on December 26, 1948, is an American former professional baseball player and coach. He has played in Major League Baseball from 1971 to 1988 for the Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, and Atlanta Braves. Chambliss received the American League Rookie of the Year Award during his debut season with the Cleveland Indians in 1971. He later served as the hitting coach for the New York Yankees, contributing to their World Series victories in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Chambliss played college baseball at MiraCosta College, a junior college located in Oceanside. Chambliss was assigned to the Wichita Aeros in the Class AAA American Association following his selection as the first overall pick in the January 1970 draft. In 1971, the Indians had Chambliss play in the outfield while Ken Harrelson served as first baseman, allowing both to appear in the lineup simultaneously.
