Larry Wayne "Chipper" Jones Jr., born April 24, 1972, is an American former professional baseball player who played as a third baseman in Major League Baseball. The Atlanta Braves selected Jones with the first overall pick in the 1990 MLB draft. He contributed to the Atlanta Braves' 1995 World Series victory, where they defeated the Cleveland Indians. Jones earned eight All-Star selections and received the 1999 National League Most Valuable Player Award, along with the 1999 and 2000 NL Silver Slugger Awards for third basemen. He is the only switch hitter in MLB history to maintain a career batting average above .300 while hitting more than 300 home runs. On June 28, 2013, the Atlanta Braves retired Jones' number 10 and inducted him into their Hall of Fame. In 1989, Jones earned First Team All-State honors in both football and baseball and helped his team win a state championship in baseball.
