Charles Joiner Jr. was born on October 14, 1947, and played 18 seasons as a wide receiver in the American Football League and National Football League, primarily with the San Diego Chargers. In 11 seasons with the Chargers, he earned three Pro Bowl selections and was named first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press in 1980. Joiner played college football with the Grambling Tigers and was a three-time first-team all-conference selection in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1969 NFL/AFL draft by the Houston Oilers, who later moved him back to the wide receiver position.
