Carl Daniel Erskine, nicknamed "Oisk," was an American professional baseball pitcher who played his entire Major League Baseball career for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1948 to 1959. He was a key contributor to Dodger teams that secured five National League pennants and the 1955 World Series championship. During the 1953 season, Erskine achieved 20 wins and recorded a World Series record of 14 strikeouts in a single game. He chose to remain with the Dodgers after being pursued by other teams, ultimately signing with the franchise after a bonus offer from general manager Branch Rickey. From 1951 to 1956, Erskine compiled a 92–58 win–loss record, supporting the Dodgers' success in four National League pennants and a World Series title. In 2002, a street in Brooklyn was named in his honor as Erskine Street. In 2023, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum presented Erskine with the Buck O'Neil Lifetime Achievement Award for his charitable efforts and dedication to the Special Olympics.
