Cameron Phillip Heyward, born on May 6, 1989, is an American professional football defensive tackle who has played in the National Football League. He played college football at Ohio State University before being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. Heyward grew up in Suwanee, Georgia, where he played high school football for the Peachtree Ridge Lions. As a true freshman in 2007, he earned freshman All-American honors from multiple outlets after recording 30 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 2 pass breakups. He was part of the Ohio State Buckeyes team that reached the BCS National Championship Game during his freshman year, where they lost to Louisiana State University. After his junior season, he chose to return for his senior year instead of entering the NFL draft. In his final college season, he recorded 48 total tackles and 3.5 sacks, including an 80-yard interception return for a touchdown against Miami.
