Calvin Johnson Biography

Calvin Johnson Jr. was born on September 29, 1985, and played as a professional wide receiver in the National Football League for nine seasons with the Detroit Lions. He was nicknamed 'Megatron' due to his imposing size and explosive speed, and is recognized as one of the most accomplished wide receivers in NFL history. Johnson played college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, where he won the Fred Biletnikoff Award and Paul Warfield Trophy in 2006. He was selected by the Detroit Lions with the second overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft. In 2012, Johnson established the NFL single-season record for receiving yards. He is tied with Michael Irvin for the most 100-yard receiving games in a single season and holds the record for the most consecutive games with 10 or more receptions. Johnson retired after the 2015 season, citing health concerns and a decline in passion for football despite being in his prime.
