Byron Buxton Biography

Byron Keiron Buxton, born on December 18, 1993, is an American professional baseball player who has played as a center fielder and designated hitter for the Minnesota Twins in Major League Baseball. Buxton was chosen second overall in the 2012 MLB draft after being identified as the top talent in that year's draft pool. He earned Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year Award during the 2013 season. Buxton made his debut in Major League Baseball in 2015. He has won a Gold Glove Award in 2017 and a Silver Slugger Award in 2025, and has been named an MLB All-Star. Buxton initially committed to a college baseball scholarship with the University of Georgia, with plans to try out for the football team. He began the 2013 season with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, a Single-A team in the Midwest League.
