Gerald Dempsey Posey III, known as Buster Posey, was born on March 27, 1987, and is an American baseball executive and former professional baseball catcher. Posey has served as the president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball. He competed for Team USA in the 2017 World Baseball Classic, contributing to the team’s first gold medal in the tournament. Posey made his Major League Baseball debut on September 11, 2009, as a professional baseball player. As a rookie, he recorded a .305 batting average, hit 18 home runs, and drove in 67 runs. A collision during a game led to the adoption of rule 7.13 prior to the 2014 season, which governs blocking the plate. In 2013, he signed a franchise-record eight-year contract extension worth $167 million with the Giants.
