David Gus 'Buddy' Bell, born August 27, 1951, is an American former third baseman and manager who has served in leadership roles within Major League Baseball. Bell has played for four teams during an 18-year career, including the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, and Cincinnati Reds, and has managed the Detroit Tigers, Colorado Rockies, and Kansas City Royals. He has been selected as an MLB All-Star on five occasions and has received six consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Awards from 1979 to 1984. Standing 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 185 pounds, Bell was a right-handed hitter who performed on teams with limited offensive output. After the 1978 season, he was traded to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Toby Harrah, a fellow veteran third baseman. His most productive season occurred with the Rangers in 1979, when he recorded 200 hits and 101 RBI, along with his first Gold Glove Award. Bell was released in December and rejoined the Rangers prior to the 1989 season, appearing in a limited role that year.
