Bucky Dent Biography

Russell Earl Dent, born November 25, 1951, is an American former professional baseball player and manager. He has played in Major League Baseball for the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Kansas City Royals between 1973 and 1984. Dent has won two World Series championships as the starting shortstop for the Yankees, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in both 1977 and 1978. He hit a home run in a tie-breaker game against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park during the 1978 regular season. The Chicago White Sox drafted Dent in the first round, sixth overall, during the 1970 MLB draft. A three-time All-Star, he served as the Yankees' shortstop until 1982, when he was traded to the Texas Rangers for outfielder Lee Mazzilli. From 1991 to 1994, Dent worked on the St. Louis Cardinals' coaching staff under manager Joe Torre, and later served on the Texas Rangers' coaching staff from 1995 to 2001.
