Brian Patrick Cushing, born on January 24, 1987, is an American former professional football player who played as a linebacker for the Houston Texans in the National Football League. Cushing was selected by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft after playing college football for the USC Trojans. He was recruited by major colleges including Notre Dame, Georgia, and Penn State before choosing to attend the University of Southern California. Cushing played for the USC Trojans football team from 2005 to 2008 under head coach Pete Carroll. He was recognized on the 2007 Bednarik Award and Lott Trophy watch lists and was named to Phil Steele's 2007 pre-season All-America team. On November 25, 2006, Cushing returned a failed onside kick by Notre Dame for a touchdown at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. On January 1, 2007, Cushing earned Rose Bowl Defensive MVP honors after recording two and one-half sacks and forcing a third-quarter fumble.
