Bret Hart Biography

Bret Hart, born on July 2, 1957, is a Canadian-American retired professional wrestler with a career spanning multiple decades. As a member of the Hart wrestling family and a second-generation wrestler, he developed his skills through amateur wrestling at Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. He was widely known by the nickname 'the Hitman' during the peak of his in-ring career. From 2010 to 2011, he returned to sporadic in-ring competition with WWE, winning his final championship, headlining the 2010 SummerSlam event, and serving as general manager of Raw. Throughout his career, he headlined major events for both the WWF and WCW, including WrestleMania IX, X, and XII, as well as Starrcade in 1999. Hart captured a total of 32 championship titles across five decades, with 17 of those held in the WWF/WWE and WCW organizations. By 1977, he had become a champion at Mount Royal College while studying filmmaking, and his coaches believed he had enough potential to compete in the following year's Commonwealth Games, prompting him to begin formal training.
