Brendan Shanahan Biography

Brendan Frederick Shanahan, born on January 23, 1969, is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and former player. Shanahan has played in the National Hockey League with the New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers, Detroit Red Wings, and New York Rangers. He was recognized in 2017 as one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. Shanahan scored 656 goals during his NHL career, which spanned over 1,500 games, and he was the active leader in goals at the time of his retirement. He is the only player in NHL history to record over 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes. Shanahan has competed for Canada in international tournaments, winning the 1991 Canada Cup, a gold medal at the 1994 World Championships, and a gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. After becoming a free agent following the 1990–91 season, he was signed by the St. Louis Blues on July 25, 1991.
