Robert Brown Thomson was born on October 25, 1923, in Glasgow, Scotland, and passed away on August 16, 2010. He played as an outfielder and right-handed batter for the New York Giants, Milwaukee Braves, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and Baltimore Orioles. Thomson had eight seasons with 20 or more home runs and earned three All-Star selections during his career. In his rookie year of 1947, he batted .283 with 29 home runs and 82 RBIs. In 1949, he achieved career highs with 109 RBIs and a .309 batting average. He became widely known for hitting a walk-off home run off Ralph Branca to win the 1951 National League pennant. Thomson hit a two-run home run that helped the Giants secure a 3–1 victory in the opening game against the Dodgers.
