Robert Anthony Stoops, born on September 9, 1960, served as the head football coach for the University of Oklahoma from 1999 through 2016, including an interim role in 2021. He compiled a career record of 191 wins and 48 losses while leading the Oklahoma Sooners. Stoops also held the position of head coach in the XFL, guiding the Renegades from 2020 and continuing through 2025. He played college football at the University of Iowa from 1979 to 1982, where he was a defensive back. He received the Paul 'Bear' Bryant Award in 2000 and was named Walter Camp Coach of the Year in both 2000 and 2003. After earning a marketing degree in 1983, he began his coaching journey as a volunteer and graduate assistant within the Iowa Hawkeyes program under Hayden Fry. He was named co-defensive coordinator at Kansas State in 1991 and later served as assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator in 1995.
