Bob Shaw Biography

Robert John Shaw, born on June 29, 1933, was an American professional baseball player who competed in Major League Baseball. As a right-handed pitcher, he has played for seven teams across 11 seasons from 1957 to 1967. In 1959, he recorded 18 wins while pitching for the American League pennant-winning Chicago White Sox. On December 3, 1963, the Braves traded him along with Del Crandall and Bob Hendley to the San Francisco Giants. While with the Giants in 1964, he instructed Gaylord Perry in the mechanics and deception of throwing a spitball. In 1972, the Milwaukee Brewers appointed him as their pitching coach, a role he assumed under former teammate Del Crandall. He resigned from the Brewers on July 15, 1973, following a disagreement with general manager Jim Wilson.
