Robert Montgomery Knight, born October 25, 1940, was an American men's college basketball coach who led teams at the collegiate level. He achieved 902 NCAA Division I men's basketball victories, a record at the time of his retirement and the sixth-highest total at the time of his death. Knight served as head coach for the Army Black Knights from 1965 to 1971, the Indiana Hoosiers from 1971 to 2000, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders from 2001 to 2008. During his tenure at Army, he guided the Black Knights to four post-season tournament appearances and secured a winning percentage above two-thirds. His 1975–76 Indiana Hoosiers team completed a perfect 32–0 season and captured the NCAA national championship. Knight earned national coach of the year recognition four times and received Big Ten Coach of the Year honors eight times. He played for Ohio State in 1958 under coach Fred Taylor, who was later inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
