Robert Edward Huggins, born on September 21, 1953, is an American college basketball coach known by the nickname Huggy Bear. He served as head coach at Walsh, Akron, Cincinnati, Kansas State, and West Virginia. Huggins is one of only six men's college basketball coaches to achieve 900 or more career victories. As of 2021, he has maintained an average of 23 wins per season throughout his coaching career. His coaching journey began in 1977 as a graduate assistant at West Virginia under Gardner. He became a collegiate head coach for the first time at age 27 in 1980 at Walsh University. That same season, he led the Walsh team to a 30–0 regular season and finished with a 34–1 record in 1982–83.
