Mark Anthony Pelini, born on December 13, 1967, is an American football coach and former player. He served as defensive coordinator for the Louisiana State University Tigers football program. Carl Pelini, his younger brother, has held coaching roles under him, including as an assistant coach. Pelini was head coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from December 2007 through November 2014 and later led the Youngstown State University football team from 2015 to 2019. After his playing days, he began coaching at the University of Iowa as a graduate assistant under head coach Hayden Fry in 1991. In 1994, he joined the National Football League with the San Francisco 49ers as a scouting assistant under head coach George Seifert. He was later hired by the New England Patriots under head coach Pete Carroll in 1997, serving as defensive backs coach during his tenure there.
