Bo Belinsky Biography

Robert Belinsky, born December 7, 1936, played as a professional baseball pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1962 to 1970. He gained local fame as a rookie with the Los Angeles Angels by winning his first four starts, including a no-hitter. Belinsky is one of only two pitchers in Angels franchise history to begin their career with a four-game winning streak or better. He finished the 1962 season with a 10–11 record, a 3.56 ERA, and led the league in walks with 122. Belinsky struggled in 1963, falling to 1–7, before returning to the majors with a 2–9 record after pitching in the minors. In 1964, he posted a 9–7 record and a career-best 2.86 ERA before a hotel room incident with a 64-year-old sportswriter ended his time with the Angels. Contemporaries noted his off-field enjoyment, and observers concluded his career had been undermined by personal challenges.
