Bill Parcells, born August 22, 1941, served as a head coach in the National Football League for 19 seasons. He achieved prominence as head coach of the New York Giants from 1983 to 1990, winning two Super Bowl championships during that period. Parcells later held head coaching positions with the New England Patriots from 1993 to 1996, the New York Jets from 1997 to 2000, and the Dallas Cowboys from 2003 to 2006. When he assumed leadership of the Giants, the team had reached the playoffs only once in the prior ten years and posted a single winning record in that span. Under his direction, the Dallas Cowboys made two playoff appearances, both of which concluded in first-round losses, prompting his third and final retirement in 2007. While leading the Giants, Parcells resided in Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, a town also home to team general manager George Young. During his tenure as linebackers coach at Army, Parcells held a part-time role as an assistant basketball coach under Bob Knight in the 1966–67 season, beginning a lasting personal bond.
