Bill Belichick Biography

William Stephen Belichick, born April 16, 1952, is an American football coach who serves as head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He holds the record for most Super Bowl wins as a head coach with six, all achieved with the New England Patriots, and has also won two as defensive coordinator with the New York Giants. Bill Belichick held the roles of head coach and de facto general manager for the Patriots during their sustained success from 2001 to 2019. Belichick left his role with the New York Giants after winning two Super Bowls under head coach Bill Parcells to become head coach of the Cleveland Browns in 1991. After rejoining Parcells, Belichick first worked with the New England Patriots, where the team lost Super Bowl XXXI, and later with the New York Jets. Belichick accepted the head coaching position for the Patriots on January 27, 2000, after resigning from the Jets just one day after being named head coach. Over 24 seasons, Belichick led the Patriots to 17 division titles, 13 AFC Championship appearances, and nine Super Bowl participations, including six victories.
