Ben Hogan Biography

William Ben Hogan was born on August 13, 1912, and passed away on July 25, 1997, becoming an American professional golfer widely regarded as one of the greatest in history. Hogan developed a strong reputation for his ballstriking ability and dedicated practice habits, shaping modern golf swing theory. He secured nine major championships and is one of six men to achieve the modern career grand slam. Hogan claimed victory in the 1948 U.S. Open with a record-setting score of 8-under 276. In September 1928, he participated in a match play championship at River Crest Country Club in Fort Worth. While still in high school in 1929, he defeated 52-year-old John Douglas in the final of the Cleburne Invitational. Hogan made his professional debut in January 1930 at the Texas Open, a PGA Tour event held at Brackenridge Park Golf Course in San Antonio.
