Bart Oates Biography

Bart Steven Oates, born on December 16, 1958, played as a center in the National Football League for the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. He played for the Giants from 1985 to 1993 and later joined the 49ers, remaining through 1995. Oates attended Albany High School in Georgia and played college football at Brigham Young University, beginning in 1977 after a two-year mission in Las Vegas, Nevada. He earned a BS in accounting from the Marriott School of Business at BYU in 1985 and was inducted into the BYU athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. Before joining the NFL, Oates played three seasons with the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars in the USFL, starting 61 of 63 games and winning two USFL championships. Oates won three Super Bowls, including two with the Giants in 1987 and 1991, and one with the 49ers in 1995. He completed law school during the off-season and graduated magna cum laude with a Juris Doctor from Seton Hall Law School in 1990.
