Artemi Sergeyevich Panarin, born on 30 October 1991, is a Russian professional ice hockey player who has played as a left winger in the National Hockey League. He has competed for teams including Vityaz Chekhov, Ak Bars Kazan, SKA Saint Petersburg, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Columbus Blue Jackets, and the New York Rangers. Panarin received the Calder Memorial Trophy during the 2015–16 season, recognizing him as the top rookie in the NHL. His maternal grandfather, who played amateur hockey, inspired Panarin to begin playing the sport at the age of five. He was not chosen in the 2010 NHL entry draft and started his professional career in the Kontinental Hockey League with HC Vityaz. In January 2013, after recording 18 points in 40 games, Panarin was traded to SKA Saint Petersburg in exchange for a draft selection. During the 2014–15 season, he scored 26 goals and accumulated 62 points across 54 games while playing for SKA Saint Petersburg.
