Arnold Daniel Palmer, born on September 10, 1929, was an American professional golfer celebrated for his impact and presence in the sport. Since beginning his professional career in 1955, he has secured multiple victories on the PGA Tour and the PGA Tour Champions circuit. He captured seven major championships during a period spanning from the 1958 Masters to the 1964 Masters. Palmer played college golf at Wake Forest College, where he earned a scholarship based on his athletic ability. After completing his military service, he resumed his education and returned to competitive golf. He claimed victory in the 1954 U.S. Amateur, a milestone that led him to decide on turning professional later that year. His first professional tournament win occurred during his 1955 rookie season, when he won the Canadian Open and earned a prize of $2,400.
