Anthony Volpe Biography

Anthony Michael Volpe, born on April 28, 2001, is an American professional baseball player who plays shortstop for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball. The Yankees chose Volpe in the first round of the 2019 MLB draft, recognizing his potential as a top-tier prospect. He made his MLB debut in 2023 and earned the American League Gold Glove Award at shortstop during his rookie season. Volpe played high school baseball at Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, where he was a teammate of Jack Leiter, now an MLB pitcher. During the 2020 minor league season cancellation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Volpe focused on building muscle and refining his swing. He began the 2021 season with the Tampa Tarpons, a Low-A affiliate in the New York Yankees' minor league system. For the start of the 2022 season, the Yankees assigned Volpe to the Somerset Patriots, a Double-A team in the Eastern League.
