Andre Nolan Dawson, born on July 10, 1954, is an American former professional baseball outfielder who has played 21 seasons in Major League Baseball. He has played for four different teams as a center and right fielder, spending most of his career with the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs. Dawson earned eight National League All-Star selections, was named Rookie of the Year in 1977, and won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1987 after leading the league in home runs and runs batted in. His role shifted from center field to right field due to knee issues, which were worsened by playing on artificial turf at Olympic Stadium. He trained with a men's team that practiced by hitting him with ground balls during his preparation. Dawson was selected by the Montreal Expos in the 11th round of the 1975 Major League Baseball draft. He hit two home runs in a single inning on two separate occasions, once against the Atlanta Braves in 1978 and again against the Chicago Cubs in 1985.
