Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez, nicknamed "A-Rod," is an American former professional baseball player who played as a shortstop and third baseman. Rodriguez has played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and New York Yankees. He began his professional career as one of the sport's most highly regarded prospects and is recognized as one of the greatest baseball players in history. With a career batting average of .295, Rodriguez recorded over 600 home runs, 2,000 runs batted in, 2,000 runs scored, 3,000 hits, and 300 stolen bases, a unique achievement in MLB history. Rodriguez holds the career record for grand slams in Major League Baseball. The Seattle Mariners selected him first overall in the 1993 MLB draft, and he made his major league debut the following year at age 18. Before the 2004 season, he was traded to the New York Yankees, where he transitioned to third base to accommodate the team's shortstop, Derek Jeter.
