Aleksander Barkov Biography

Aleksander Barkov, born on 2 September 1995, is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who has played as a centre and has captained the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League. He was chosen by the Florida Panthers in the first round of the 2013 NHL entry draft, selected second overall in the draft. Barkov began his professional career with Tappara in the SM-Liiga, joining their junior system prior to his debut in 2011. He played alongside teammate Jonathan Huberdeau on the Panthers' first line, contributing consistently to the team's offensive efforts. During the 2020–21 season, Barkov achieved the milestone of six consecutive seasons with at least 50 points and 20 goals, a first in franchise history. Before joining the NHL, he returned to the Liiga for the 2012–13 season, where he recorded multiple personal bests. After signing with the Panthers, he participated in their training camp ahead of the 2013–14 NHL season.
