Steve Largent Biography

Stephen Michael Largent, born on September 28, 1954, played 14 seasons in the National Football League as a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. He served as a Republican representative for Oklahoma's 1st congressional district from 1994 to 2002. Largent played college football at Tulsa University, where he studied biology, and began his NFL career with the expansion Seahawks in 1976. In 1974, he recorded 884 receiving yards and 14 touchdown receptions during his college season. The Seahawks traded an 1977 eighth-round draft pick to acquire him, a move that helped shape their early roster. Largent returned to play in a game against the Detroit Lions in 1987, just before the end of the NFLPA strike. After Charlie Joiner retired, Largent held the NFL record for career receiving yards until he retired in 1989.
